Insanity – Round 1 – Day 8 & 9

Day 8: Cardio Power and Resistance
Day 9: Pure Cardio

It doesn’t seem to get any easier the second time around. I really am liking Cardio Power and Resistance. I was amazed at how high I was jumping with my knees up. I was starting to look like Shaun T. in the marketing still shots. Pure Cardio, on the other hand, is a tough ride. I lasted longer this time before I had to take a quick 10 second break, but 20 minutes of varied cardio is tough. It is nothing like running, where you repeat the stride. Mixing it up definitely gets the heart rate up.

On a side note, I am really starting to feel sore in the abdominal area. That is a good thing. When I started Insanity, I was a little disappointed to find out that the targeted ab work was limited to one day a week. I am used to doing double ARX with P90X and really was hoping to get more definition. But, the truth is, all of the high knees and power jumps are working your abs way harder than a bunch of sit ups and leg lifts. Insanity is a core-based program. It will work your abs CONSTANTLY. I am already seeing and feeling a change.

  1. Nice! I am looking forward to Pure Cardio/Cardio Abs today.
Well, maybe not ‘looking forward to’…

    • Let me know how it goes. I will be doing that workout for the first time on Sunday (today is my rest day.)
After doing pure cardio yesterday, I was thinking to myself, man… I can’t imagine having another 15-20 minutes to go.
I am hoping that it is a great ab workout. I miss ARX in some ways.

      Good luck!

      • Well, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. I’ve gotten to the point that I just shut my mind off and do it. There are some moves that are not very difficult (possibly thanks to Ab Ripper X!), and then there are some that are very difficult (just to balance on my butt while raising my legs up and keeping them straight). I hope to see the kind of gradual improvement in my ability like I did with ARX.

      • Man… I can just image.. You are probably going into zombie mode when you try to keep going at 100% after pure cardio. I am excited to give it a go. Gotta have that ab work!
