Day 32: Feeling Good – P90X Phase 2 Diet Change

Day 32: Yoga X

I felt really good today. Lots of energy! I had a healthy  soreness in my biceps and legs from the past two days of working out, but I didn’t mind a bit. Yoga X took away the pain and got me stretched out and good as new. I am starting to see big differences in Yoga. I am able to hold harder poses for the full length of the video and I am becoming much more flexible. I made it through the whole warrior 3/half moon series without losing balance.

Along with Phase 2 comes changes to the diet. The nutrition guide called for 40% carbs, 40% protein, 20% fats. Since I am going to start taking creatine this week, I decided to keep the proteins a little higher. My new diet will be 46% protein, 36% carbs, 18% fat. It is not exactly the same as the nutrition guide, but I really need that protein to build muscle.

Tip of the day: Use Fit Day to check your daily percentages. If you don’t pay attention to your diet, your results will come much slow and plateau much earlier than they should.

  1. You are making some great progress, you are definitely looking thinner and I am glad to hear the abs are coming out. I just finished my Yoga X and got rocked, boy does that workout make your quads burn!

  2. Hi Pete,

Just finished legs and back.. It was a stressful work day and I had a dentist appointment after work so by the time I got home it was nearly 10 pm. I could hardly stay awake on the bus, and the traffic was horrible. I really had a hard time working out nearly every day of this past week. I felt like crying while doing some of the moves. This was the third worst day of p90x for me, the first two was in the beginning of the program. I couldn’t bring myself to do ab ripper. I’ll have to do it tomorrow. Do I feel guilty about it? No, not really. I’d much prefer to be sleeping in bed or at least watching a mellow movie like breakfast at tiffany’s curled up under a blanket with my cat on my lap. This is the best I can do, really.

Why is this happening? What can I do about it? Will the recovery week help me get back on track? The thing is I enjoy working out but nowadays all I want is to sleep. By the way, I didn’t change the way I eat. Can you help me get through this? I really need some positive thinking.

Oh, I have to do you justice you’re looking damn good. It’s so obvious I didn’t feel the need to bring it up at the first place. Share all your tips here ok?

    • Hi Sena,

I am sorry to hear that this week has been tough.

Don’t worry, week three wasn’t very good for me either. I tried to think positive, but I was getting a little bored in week three and had some late night workouts where I could not give 100%. I think that week three is hurdle that you have to drag yourself over. Do your best and maybe you can do stretch X and ab ripper on Sunday to get back on track. You will kind of miss not having to do it next week anyways (weird, huh?). Don’t get down on yourself and don’t give up.

      Think of it this way:
You made it to the last week of phase 1! Most people would have quit by now. Next week will be pretty easy for you. Core Synergistics is just ab training with really light weights. It is a good change of pace and not too hard. Other than that, you have a few days of Stretch X, Yoga X, and Kenpo X. No Plyometrics = easy week! You can do this! By this end of rest week you will be so excited about hitting 30 days that you will get a new wave of energy and motivation. Exerises change again and you feel like you are doing a brand new program. It feels amazing to be 1/3 of the way through and I really saw the improvements around day 30. You will feel the same in just 7 more days.

For the wanting to sleep all of the time… Working out gives you an energy boost. You need to work out before you get too tired and you will have plenty of energy. If you are already tired, eat an apple about 30 minutes before you work out. It will give you some carbs to get moving.

You can do this! You aren’t about to give up when you are just about to enter rest week… You are much better than that.

Make sure to keep in touch each day.

  3. Hi again Pete,

Thank you, I really needed your kind words of encouragement. There’s no way I’m quitting! I can’t throw all my efforts away! I don’t want to be ungrateful. As a matter of fact I see results each day, especially in my legs. If there’s a female around you considering to start doing p90x, tell them it’s an absolute cure for cellulite. I’m a little embarrassed to confess I had a problem with it. Hey, I’m a woman and it’s a part of womanhood, ok?! 🙂 Maybe it’s the diet, maybe the vigorous exercise but it’s a sure way to get rid of cellulite. I was getting dressed for work a few days ago and my sister who was in the room getting ready for school was like, wow what happened to your legs?! If only I could make her do some sort of exercise… She really doesn’t like it and she has a tight schedule because of the college entry exams we have in here. She’s 16, is it ok for her to work out with weights? Lighter ones should be ok I think, but I’m not an expert on this so keeping my mouth shut. Anyway, this is a female point of view on p90x…

I check your blog but don’t write every day. It feels like I’m bothering you with my questions. Don’t slack off, I’m right here 🙂 In fact I feel proud when you say you really pushed yourself and enjoyed it at the same time. I’m going to bed now, it’s nearly 2 am. Knowing that I can sleep as long as I want makes me want to stay up but I know it’s not good for me so…

Thanks again. I really appreciate your help.

    • No problem at all! Hopefully you will feel better tomorrow.

I am glad to hear that P90X works so well for women. I know that there are a lot of ladies out there thinking about P90X, but many get scared away because they think that it is a body building program. Most are stuck in that, “I want to lose weight, not gain muscle,” mind-state. It is really good to hear that you are getting great results.

I heard that it is ok for teenagers to do P90X. I have also seen some teenagers post video reviews with amazing results. The problem is, if your sister isn’t motivated to exercise, she is going to hate P90X. It takes a certain type of person to be successful using this program. If she doesn’t have the motivation or discipline, there is no way she’ll make it past week one.

A few people at work have asked me what I am doing to get in shape and after I tell that about the diet and seven-day-per-week workouts, they say that my results are amazing, but there is no way that they would have the discipline. I really can’t blame them. P90X is a life-changing experience. Its much easier to eat unhealthy (but delicious foods). It is much easier to go home after work and watch TV or take a nap. It is much easier not to push yourself. P90X really does work, but a person needs to want the challenge, have the discipline, and have faith that it will all be worth it.

You are never bothering me. It is always good to hear from you. I think that you know as much about this program as me, but I will offer whatever advice I can.

I need to get some homework done before my workout. I have a day off of work tomorrow so I might even watch a movie tonight! Can’t wait to sleep in.

      Talk to you soon.
